Take no notice of Victoria M - our experience was totally different! We stayed there for 6 nights from 24th - 29th April, and we had such a wonderful time. You can take for granted that all the usual accommodation requirements get full marks, but this holiday was so much more than just accommodation. The staff could not have been more attentive, and breakfast and high tea in a shady spot in the garden watching the nyala, rutting impala and warthogs around the watering hole was lovely enough on its own.
Add to that the magic of sitting in the boma protected area with a blazing fire, and eating beautifully cooked suppers by candlelight under the stars, with the lions roaring just outside - wow. While we were out on the game drives we saw white rhino on 5 occasions, lions on 3 occasions and no they were NOT baited buffalo herds on 3 occasions, and so much other wildlife - our eyes are open to more than just the big 5! Kudu, waterbuck, herds of wildebeast, zebras, giraffes, vervet monkeys, maribou storks wow they were impressive , ostriches, vultures and eagles - too many species to name, kingfishers, rollers, a hoopoe, hornbills, crested guinea fowl, and more - and of course the homegrown croc in the water hole.
We didnt see the elephants unfortunately, but we did find a fresh pile of elephant poo so they couldn't have been far We didnt see the elephants unfortunately, but we did find a fresh pile of elephant poo so they couldn't have been far away!
We learned a lot from Dusty too, he told us lots of stuff about the trees and animals that I didnt know before. One morning, we got back from a game drive we hadn't seen much of the big stuff that morning and had just sat down to our yummy breakfast, when the shout "lion" went up, and we all ran back to the truck, and Dusty took us off down the road to where a lioness was sitting in the grass looking at us.
After a couple of minutes she decided to get up, and we watched as she literally disappeared into the grass in a couple of paces. No wonder they are not easy to see all the time. We went back to the lodge, and the girls had put our breakfast back in the oven to keep warm, so we sat down again and enjoyed it immensely The staff at Zebra Hills are doing their absolute best to help you see the wildlife, and I feel quite "distressed" that they have been so unjustly criticised.
